Meet Kayla Powers, a place-based artist and founder of Salt Textile Studios. Kayla gathers locally foraged plants growing in the city of Detroit and transforms them into an exquisite palette of natural dyes that then get woven into her textile art. Each piece is a unique expression of place and season. Kayla’s advice to other Makers is “just keep going. If you’re saying something that’s meaningful to you, then it’s probably meaningful to someone else too.”
